For years we have known that the very essence of work was changing, and that the future of work would require new thinking. New technologies, digitization of business, changing demographics, evolving customer expectations and more were morphing how work would be done.
The COVID-19 Pandemic accelerated this future of work exponentially. Seemingly we worked one way on Friday, March 13th, and when we came to work on Monday, March 16th many of our work traditions, processes, and rhythms were disrupted. No longer were we meeting at the water cooler or in the conference room. Customers had closed their doors to our outside sales people. Our lunch breaks that allowed for connections were no longer.
We found ourselves finding room at the end of the kitchen table for our computer as we home schooled our children. All the while having a new burden of concern for our and our loved ones health and job security.
